Sunray Coop stable, evacuation orders lifted as power restoration begins
SUNRAY, Texas (KFDA) - Sunray’s water restrictions have been lifted after a grain elevator exploded Friday afternoon.
Officials say they are currently working on the gas issues and are hoping to begin turning on gas later today for residents.
All evacuation orders have been lifted for Sunray residents after a grain elevator exploded Friday afternoon.
According to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), engineers have completed their assessment of the Skyland Grain Elevator building, formerly Sunray Coop.
Officials determined the structure is stable, posing no significant risk to the public as this time.
Crews are working to restore gas and electrical power to the city.
According to the MCSO, the process of restoring gas service could take several days to complete.
While residents are permitted to return home, the immediate area surrounding the explosion site remains closed as investigations continue.
Officials are asking anyone who discovers damage to their property related to the incident to report it to the Moore County Emergency Management Office at 806-934-9520.
Moore County officials confirmed the explosion Friday afternoon at Skyland Grain Elevator.
The MCSO says all people impacted by the explosion been accounted for.
Officials say five people were injured in the explosion and have been taken to area hospitals.
The MCSO says residential areas two blocks north of the co-op and one block south were evacuated due to significant damage to the building.
As of last night, the MCSO says residents evacuated from homes north of Pauline Avenue can return to their homes.

Last night, the Xcel Energy outage map showed around 80 people were without power in the Sunray area.
The MCSO says crews shut off gas and power to the impacted area as they continue to work the scene.
The Amarillo Fire Department sent two engines, one unit and the AMBUS in mutual aid. Now, all AFD units returned to Amarillo.
According to Chief Rick Pippins with the Dumas Police Department, they have sent multiple officers to provide aid.
